| About Department (Description from HOD point of view) | Department of Botany established in the year1971.Initially with undergraduate (UG) Course B.Sc Botany and further in 2019 Post graduate (PG) course M.Sc Botany was introduced that is running efficiently by the department. The department is enriched with learning resources such as charts, museum specimens, slides, power points, models, herbarium and modern facilities like computers, internet, LCD-Projector which help the students in independent learning. The Department of Botany also has Botanical Garden with Various Medicinal plants. The Botanical excursion are organized in view to study the wild plant diversity, Forest ecosystem and to inculcate the research knowledge to the students by visiting Various educational and research institutes like Agricultural University, Nurseries etc. Department has a separate Herbarium in which old dried plant specimens (1065) required for the identification purpose are maintained. The botanical garden is well maintained with ex-situ conservation of some rare, endangered, and medicinal plants collected from Western Ghats. Such plants are multiplied and planted at different places in collaboration with forest department and taken care of by the department as an extension activity. Department has a library consisting of 50 (UG), 30 text and reference books (PG) and 10 research journals subscribed by the staff. Every academic year the department organizes Seed broadcasting and Tree Plantation activity for student awareness and to enhance students’ knowledge about biodiversity.
There are four laboratories in the department out of which two laboratories are exclusively for under graduate students, one for post graduate students and one for the research students. All the laboratories are well equipped with modern instruments purchased out of grants provided by Education Society, UGC and Savitribai Phule Pune University for development and research projects. Department having well educated, research oriented and highly experienced staff members. Hon. Principal Dr. K.N. Gaikwad has published 36 several research articles/Papers in well reputed journals and presented some of them in national and international level Conferences, Seminars etc. Sir is a well-recognized Ph.D research Guide From 2015 and around 3 eminent researchstudents are doing Ph.D under his guidance . Also, the Head of the Department Asst.Prof. M.G. Gavit have published around 10 research articles in well reputed journals and presented some of them in national and international level Conferences, Seminars etc Remaining Faculty members of the department Asst.Prof.K.U.Gaikwad, Asst.Prof. D.S.Antapurkar and Asst.Prof.V.B.Thombare have enrolled for Ph.D course recently.
